birthday photoshoot ~

May 26th, 2016 by _d2_

it’s that time again – my birthday. the one day a year where i don’t feel guilty for binging on sherlock holmes and goofing around with my art. this year i decided to rewatch miyazaki’s meitantei holmes (sherlock hound in the us). i love anthros and i love sherlock holmes, so it’s a perfect win-win for me (and it’s always amused me that it’s a japanese anime done for an italian tv station and originally scripted in english…. )

anyway – this week i did my photoshoot a little early and decided to use plague and pestilence. however, they were being total brats this time around so it may be awhile before i take pictures of them again!

just as promised!

here is the second shoot for this week. though i think i’ll be going back to doing just one photoshoot a week and posting it on friday or saturday…. it takes a lot of time to set up, photograph, and edit these pictures – and while i have fun doing it, it does cut down on my time for drawing and sculpting…

anyway – this week i played with the kitsune some more. i have a real love-hate relationship with her.

an early gallery post

May 18th, 2016 by _d2_

i need to get back to doing my gallery posts on saturdays, but life got to me (again) so i did a shoot with amaterasu and kame. i hope to do a second shoot for saturday as well, but we’ll see how things go…

two photoshoots this week

May 12th, 2016 by _d2_

so earlier i took a mini-shoot with amaterasu just for giggles, and then i finished (mostly) the painting for the kitsune and nekomata so they got a shoot this morning as well.

i still have to finish the kitsune’s wig and fix part of her faceup – but they’re slowly coming together nicely!

so first up it’s amaterasu – you may recognize the wig as the one i originally made for one of my resin kirins. i’ve also put it on kame and, well, turns out it fits amaterasu as well! without realizing it, i’ve managed to make a number of dolls that seem to share wigs.

and now for some mischief – i had hoped they would end up being more evil, but maybe that’ll happen when i finish their clothes?

what’s kinda neat about the nekomata is that i was able to use actual cat whiskers to finish his look. don’t worry, no cruelty here – cats naturally shed their whiskers like any other bit of fur, and with multiple cats over several years, i was able to collect a decent number to use.

and of course he proved to be waaaaaay more photogenic this time around than the kitsune… perhaps she’s a modest being and is waiting for her outfit…

a new girl ~

May 6th, 2016 by _d2_

just finished up this girl – a prototype/proof of concept doll based on a squid. i originally started “ika” with the idea of having a gender neutral doll – but she is definitely very feminine… or at least this one is. i hope to do a few others as one-offs over time, so maybe i’ll manage a more neutral or masculine one down the line?

she may not be able to stand on her own, but she poses like a little ballerina.

the black spider

after a very rocky week with some huge highs and lots of bumpy lows, i pulled out my little spider for a shoot. for me, the dolls aren’t just play things or pretty objects – they’re pieces to help me mediate and reflect, often projecting my own emotions back at me so i can get a sense of what’s really going on inside my head.

i've been drawing for as long as i could hold a pencil and art became my first language. though i've only been sculpting since 2007, i fell in love with the idea of being able to bring my drawings to life. i am heavily inspired by medieval macabre artwork, japanese yokai, and oddly enough, sherlock holmes. currently i'm living just south of beautiful portland oregon ^^
