another kirin post (with preorder info)

August 5th, 2014 by _d2_

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: i have been searching for an accounting job since january, and working on my art in hopes that one or the other would be successful. my art seems to be winning right now, but at the same time i don’t have the money to front the full costs of ordering a huge batch of dolls to sell to people later on.

IF a preorder is done, the costs that you (potential buyer) would be paying is strictly the cost i endure to have her cast in resin – so you would get your doll. however, IF no one says they want to preorder her (sorry, saying you love her but have no money is very sweet and encouraging to hear, but doesn’t help much ^^;;;; ), then i only have enough money set aside to have her molded and just a small handful cast for personal use.

i DO intend to get my dolls produced somehow, but i have found out from 5 years of failures that i’m very allergic to resin and silicone. so i have to pay other people to cast my dolls in resin for me. on the other hand, i have no problems creating my own flumo (ceramic) cast dolls and am quickly learning the ins and outs of plaster molding.

there are pluses and minuses on both sides –

resin – studier and easier to customize, but more expensive to produce since it has to be outsourced, meaning a higher cost and longer wait for finished doll.

flumo/ceramic – able to create myself, so lower cost and faster turn around, but more fragile and not as customizable as resin.

so if there is no success in kirin as a resin doll, then i will be working to create plaster molds of her down the line to later offer a limited ceramic version of her.

and now back to the original post ^^

————–

okay… so, sure, i’ve heard from a person who heard from another person and so on and so forth that some random joe likes kirin, and i’ve heard she’s been shared around the internet a bit (wow that sounded bad) – but all in all… i’ve had very little interest expressed directly to me.

i’m not a wealthy person. in fact, i’m currently unemployed and if it weren’t for the kindness of my parents and the fact that i’ve been able to sell off a huge chunk of my company made BJDs, i’d be penniless right now. but that money is running out quickly and i’ve had to start taking some money out of my kirin casting funds.

i can’t afford to order a bunch of kirins in the hopes that they’ll sell down the line. the sad truth is, if no one is willing to buy, then i can’t afford to make them available to the general public.

so, i’ve done one more photoshoot in hopes of garnering any last ditch interest of a possible preorder, otherwise i will just contend to have a personal couple made for myself and down the line i will offer only flumo/ceramic versions of my dolls that i can cast myself.

so here she is again in all her rough cuteness (i was reworking the holes on the hips so pardon the unsanded clay…)

first of two posts today

i took these pics yesterday of xenoceratops but didn’t feel like posting them up – yesterday was not exactly productive….

but the second post will have more info about kirin and such, so i have the feeling that’s what most people are going to look at.

however, i LOVE my little xeno-girl and can’t wait to have her all done. at her size i’m more confident about making jointed hands than i am for amaterasu, plus i think hers will be only jointed at the knuckles.

i’m also thinking of giving her jointed feet so she can wear some high heels as well…

anyway, on to the pics! for fun i stole some ribbons from the venetian sun to tie on one of her horns (which, btw, are going to be killer to get even on both sides…)

finished the sun

and took some shots to submit to the person running the theme challenge at NAIDA, and… part way through i noticed a small crack on her hip…

then it happened. she feel forward and snapped her neck off. sigh.

it wasn’t the first time, but i had thought i had fixed it so now i’m having to fix her back up again.

in the mean time i’ve been tweaking and retweaking kirin to fix her standing issues and putting the horns on the xenoceratops.

but here are some of shots i managed to get before the venetian sun decided to take off her head.

but i’m back to thinking she needs that dress, but not until after NIADA.

another kirin post!

in hopes of generating more interest – here is an updated shoot of kirin. she’s almost nearly done – i just have to fix one of her ankle balls and she should be able to stand decently (currently you have to fight a bit with her)

and yep, she has a little stub of a tail. i don’t know why i keep doing them, but i just love how it looks…. maybe because i always wished i had a tail myself…

about

i've been drawing for as long as i could hold a pencil and art became my first language. though i've only been sculpting since 2007, i fell in love with the idea of being able to bring my drawings to life. i am heavily inspired by medieval macabre artwork, japanese yokai, and oddly enough, sherlock holmes. currently i'm living just south of beautiful portland oregon ^^
