radio silence ≠ dead in the water

believe it or not, but i have been working on stuff during my silent periods between short posts. though admittedly, i’ve been working on my prehistoric babies rather than kame or kirin who are nearly done….. sometimes i get overwhelmed and freeze up as to what i need to do next.

i’ve also been working on a drawing of my boarcroc. this boy has been something in my mind for a very long time (why yes, leatherhead is one of my favorite characters, though i do like mikey and raphael more ^_~ )

but i got this great book on how to draw furries (the title is “draw more furries”) and it actually has a section on lizards, reptiles, and dinosaurs. the tips really helped me figure out what i was unable to grasp when trying to visualize boarcroc.

well, first up are some pics of xenoceratos. i have been fighting with the frill, trying to get it even (or as even as possible) and i *think* i may have finally managed. of course i also realized i got the horns in the wrong places/numbers…. sigh…. so now i have to decide to i change it to make it accurate, or just say f**k it?

maybe it’s just me, but it kinda looks like this side is melting…. i really should work on it to make it the same as the other side….

and i also decided to carve out the inside of the mouth more – i didn’t like how solid it was. but i do need to rework the edges slightly so i can define the beak better.

and with boarcroc – xenoceratops is going to be put on a gender neutral body because while i had originally intended it to be a boy, somehow it feels more and more like a girl…. boarcroc, on the other hand, will most definitely be male!

and here we are with boarcroc – man, i think the last time i posted pics he was just a couple of lumps of clay…

yep – he’s going to have a working jaw hinge! i’m still trying to figure out how it will work, but i’m excited about it!

with the upper torso (if you’re eagle-eyed, you’ll notice that this is the torso for the body that i had sculpted for basil/ronald. sadly, the body turned out too large for those heads, but it’s a great size for the basis of boarcroc’s body – which means less work for me on him! though i’ll have to start a new body for ronald/basil…. if i ever get around to finishing them. sigh…. )

and here he is with my sketch which i’m very proud of – mind you it’s still a work in progress, and i’m hoping when i’ve got it fully done i can trace it and transfer it to another piece of paper to then color in with some prismacolor markers i got to play around with.

and with my research materials (okay, it’s just two pics i managed to find on the internet…. but they’re amazingly done! i really respect the artists who breathe life into the new fossil discoveries! ) i have noticed that my boarcroc drawing doesn’t have the horns at the top of the head in the right place and i’m trying to decide how to fix it, or if i should fix it…..

i've been drawing for as long as i could hold a pencil and art became my first language. though i've only been sculpting since 2007, i fell in love with the idea of being able to bring my drawings to life. i am heavily inspired by medieval macabre artwork, japanese yokai, and oddly enough, sherlock holmes. currently i'm living just south of beautiful portland oregon ^^
