i think i’m going crazy…

but as i’m working on kame and saru… i started thinking about completely resculpting pierrot from scratch.

i have a full resin cast of her, but it needs work to fill in all the holes and what not and when i was working on her yesterday i started to feel nauseous, i can only assume from the resin….

i feel bad because i’ve put 5 years into this doll and what i have to show for it is a pile of barely passable pieces in a plastic bag…. am i running away from my problems? it’s so frustrating to be so close and yet so far with her… perhaps this is why i keep working on new projects?

i wish i could send her off to my mom or someone to work on her for a few days so that there can be some progress without me having to work on her…. i’m feeling burned out on this cute girl….. (not to mention the rest of my life…. )

look, more pics!

of course it wasn’t until after i uploaded them that i realized the color was off…. they were white when i looked at them in lightroom! but now they’re yellow tinted…. so i’ll have to go and edit them in photoshop and reload them later i think…

but some pics of saru and kame – i used black fabric for a backdrop and turned my camera back to raw – some how it was on jpeg – and “magically” they pics came out great!

i’ve updated pics on 221b site too. and in the meantime, i’m off to start bulking up arms and legs so they have lots of time to dry!

oh, did i mention that i gave kame a cute little tail?

and here is lovely saru – though without her teeth, she looks a bit… bored?

my mom asked me to bring kirin so she could borrow her for the upcoming NIADA convention. of course i said yes – i’m so in love with my girl and even though she’s not done i love the chance to show her off. also, my mom helped me work on my website, the start of which is now at 221b.4oni.com – it’s very rough, so be gentle with your critics!

oh, and look at these shots my mom got of kirin!

big updates

so, after a lot of soul searching i’ve come to realize that i get the most enjoyment out of sculpting the dolls and get too caught up on how to mold and cast. but i still would like to share my dolls with people who love them, so i’m looking to do a cast of pierrot and fill in any holes and what not, sand her smooth, and then contact some casting services for quotes. i can then also finish up the other heads i have for her body (such as xolotl and voodoo) and my boy jean-pierre to also offer.

and in the meantime, i can work on my OOAK in the paper clay and let myself go imagination wise. i may or may not offer some of those for sale in the future, it depends on how attached i get to them ^^;;;

i also am going to finally get around to making my eye masters so i can make my own eyes.

but in the mean time, i played with saru some and she has an ear and two eyes now, and i also decided to do some lacing on her chest and will do some down her sides to resemble corset lacing, which i have always loved. (my mom did a really awesome sculpt several years ago with corset lacings down the back and i always wanted to try my hand at it, but in my own style) – and yes, i write notes on the dolls as i work…. it’s the best way for me to remember from one session to the next of things i want to adjust.

and then i also started another new girl (i know, i know! ) using one of the more common puns/play on words in japanese. she’s my “kame” girl – i’ve always wanted to do a turtle shell pattern on a doll, but the way i sculpt backs didn’t allow for the obvious placement….

i’ve only been working on this girl in bits and pieces since wednesday, but i’ve already gotten pretty far! and yet, i could be further if the weather would cooperate…. it’s been so humid that the clay isn’t able to air dry, but it’s also been too hot for me to turn the oven on to “bake” her….

her face is still quite rough, but i’m trying my hand at doing a more asian feeling face…. i’m not sure how well i’m doing it, but i like the direction it’s going. she currently has two different sized eyes because i couldn’t decide, but i think i’m going to go with the smaller size.

about

i've been drawing for as long as i could hold a pencil and art became my first language. though i've only been sculpting since 2007, i fell in love with the idea of being able to bring my drawings to life. i am heavily inspired by medieval macabre artwork, japanese yokai, and oddly enough, sherlock holmes. currently i'm living just south of beautiful portland oregon ^^
