look at me, i’m back to my old habits of forgetting to take pictures or posting updates!

*cough* okay, i know, nothing to be proud of – but as what has happened frequently in the last 4 months, real life kind of took me by storm. and after having my parents over (which, btw, was great – i didn’t realize how much i missed them! ) and then my car breaking, and… well, quite a few other things…. i’m getting back into the swing of things.

i didn’t get a chance to talk to my mom in person about the webshop/page, but i did show her the dolls i’m working on and she was very impressed. that made me feel really good. i also took them to the field museum up in chicago. wow, i hadn’t been there before so it was my first time too – and it was AMAZING! i’ve loved dinosaurs since i was like…. 2, and so getting to see them up close was mind blowing! sure, i’d been to some of the dig sites, but the displays are far away where as the field museum, you were with in like 2 feet of them and could see each and every detail.

i got some pictures with my iphone, not the best camera in the world, but it served it’s purpose. what was great was that they had triceratops skulls – not exactly xenoceratops, but will help immensely!

i also started a challenge with my mom. my goal for the year : create a manly man doll.

see, mine have always been…. delicate, feminine, dainty. and i want a nice manly man – but not too overly buff. so i dusted off basil’s body have been reworking it (along with working on hollow and saru while i try to scrape together the money for the remaining molds for pierrot). i’ve also decided on the insane task of creating a crocodilian head with a jointed lower jaw to go with this manly man body. why, you ask? because crocodilians are cool and are nice and scary – that’s the other thing i’m not able to do…. create rugged, powerful pictures….

i had thought about doing nile crocodile, but then i also came across boarcroc. if you’ve not heard of it, i recommend googling it. that is one awesome looking beast! (i also like the fact it was announced along with dogcroc, ratcroc, duckcroc, and pancakecroc – it must be so fun picking out the names for new animals! )

yes, yes – the prehistoric crocodiles are old news, but while i had heard of dogcroc and pancakecroc before, i hadn’t heard of the other three so it was a treat for me!

so you see, while i haven’t updated or taken pics for the blog, it’s not because i’ve been sitting on my hands doing nothing – it’s because i’ve been doing too much!

oh, and i got the materials to make myself a lightbox so i’ll soon be able to take nice clean crisp pictures! ja ne!

sorry, no pics this time

but i promise to take some in the coming week.

i’ve been doing a lot of little things here and there and so no individual piece looks that much different, but they’re all the little nit-picky things that i hate doing but needed to get done.

i’ve also set up some more mold to pour this afternoon. i need about 400$ to get the mold and resin i need for the dolls and i’ve got about 200 so far – if i can sell a few more things by the end of the month i should be good! yay!

and hopefully i will only be a month or two behind my original schedule….. my parents are coming out in lest than a week for a short visit, and i’m hoping to do a little talking with my mom about setting up the webpage/shop for my dolls.

i need to do a massive overhaul of my main site anyway….

after a moment of weakness

that lead to the rant in the previous post, i did a lot of thinking.

and well, i’ve set myself two goals for this new year – 1) to do more homemade meals and 2) to put in at least 30 minutes a day on my dolls.

so today i worked on some sanding here and there, and now saru has two eyes that are level and the same size/shape – i just have to build up/out one eyelid and then do some sanding to make her cheeks and brow symmetrical. but she’s getting there.

i’ve also been working on the centauroid lower body for my mini sized. right now it’s very human like (kinda like doll chateau’s alberta) but i’m hoping to make it more animal-like in appearance when i start making different legs (i know i want to do cat legs, and i might do maned wolf and perhaps a gazelle/antelope of some sort….. see a pattern here? i know, i’m a sucker for long legs! )

i’m going to pick up some 800 or 1000 grit sandpaper to also help smooth pieces, before and after casting in resin – to make them more finished. it should still let the resin have enough tooth for the sealer to stick to it, but will remove all the fine scratches and what not.

i am debating with myself, though, whether or not to change saru from the faceplate style to a headcap style…. there are pros and cons of both, but all my other dolls are in the headcap style so it seems odd (to me at least) for her to be a faceplate….

i've been drawing for as long as i could hold a pencil and art became my first language. though i've only been sculpting since 2007, i fell in love with the idea of being able to bring my drawings to life. i am heavily inspired by medieval macabre artwork, japanese yokai, and oddly enough, sherlock holmes. currently i'm living just south of beautiful portland oregon ^^
