slowing getting back to normal

September 30th, 2012 by _d2_

i had to figure out some stuff with pictures and what not, but i seem to have it solved so i hope to start posting pics again! yay!

i also have everything done except for one leg – so pierrot is nearly done! and then i get to start molding again! i took the no-computer time as an opportunity to do research (on my little iphone) and i think i have found some ways to help my molds get better.

i also finally got a binder to store all my ideas in and found out that i already have about 54 ideas planned for dolls – i think i’ll be busy for quite awhile!

my goal is still to finish pierrot by the end of the year, and then move to finishing up xolotl (and restarting her doggy legs for the umpteenth time… ) as well as jean-pierre. and then it will be kirin and some of the other heads (such as voodoo and my little birdy) as well as a couple of personal projects (basil, ronald, venus… )

i know, it’s a tale that’s been told before, but this time i can honestly see the light at the end of the tunnel and baring any unforeseen emergencies, i should have things done in two weeks.

end of the black out!

my silence for september was not on purpose. my beloved computer up and died on me! so rude! so i had to sell things to raise the money for a new one, which just arrived today! yay!

but i have been working some on pierrot – i’ve changed her joints to single rather than double – i prefer the look of them and know i can get them to work right!

i’m still aiming to have some sample dolls to send out to a few friends at the end of october, but i’m not 100% sure it will happen if things keep going against me.

minor update, no photos

i took a couple days off to recover mentally and physically from a very trying week. it helped a lot and i worked more on finishing parts of pierrot and some on kirin.

i haven’t done any more molds because the weather has been a bit unpredictable – but the rain is supposed to be gone for the next week so with any luck i can get some more done as i can spray and such outside. (yay outside! )

i’ll try to get some pictures of what i have going on later today – but i’m still feeling pretty exhausted. the storms that hit yesterday and the day before really aggravated my RA and every joint hurts so i’m running at like…. 1/3 power. i’ve got to get back to at least half power since i have to go back to work on monday. ugh… work….

i’ve also been trying to sell some of my dolls for money to help cover molding and casting costs, but nothing is selling – this probably doesn’t bode well for the industry as a whole….

ready to kick out new roommate….

it just seems that liquids and i are not mixing well…

i started to pour my molds and i have 3.5 out of 18 done (i know, cringeworthy odds…) – well, of those 3.5 molds done, i have only 2 that are…. passable. they will require clean up when i cast them in resin because even though i used a pressure pot, i still have quite a few bubbles in the molds. *sob*

of course my pressure pot is leaking and i can’t figure out how to stop it! (each time i stop one leak, another one appears – i’m at my wits end…. )

at this rate, i’ll be lucky to have just half of the pieces molded by the time i need to go back to work on the 10th…. i’m working on the next set of molds and trying to figure out how to salvage the ones i have… the one for pierrot’s head looks pretty good, though there are tiny bubbles between her lips and in one ear – i *think* i can clean those up in casting. the upper torso piece has a bit of roughness on the back that can also be cleaned off after casting.

her lower torso leaked under the piece and has made the entire mold unusable. the half mold – for one of the upper thighs – was going ok until i managed to shatter part of the original piece trying to clean out clay to prepare it for the second pour. i’m not confident in the mold working after the last two so i think i need to start anew on that piece as well.

the weather is also being against me as the rains have lingered (well, mostly drizzles, but it’s enough to keep me from spraying outside) and i’m finding the glue solution isn’t working for me….

i’ll keep pushing on and hoping things will improve, but my timeline may be ruined… and in the meantime, i’ll console myself with french tintin and japanese sherlock holmes. perhaps watching other people meet with hilarious failures will make me feel better about my own?

have a new roommate -

and his name is murphy….

if water could go wrong in a house, it has gone wrong in this house the last two days, right down to flooding from the storms moving across illinois. (not to mention a beloved ferret thinking he needed to steal the japanese moss ball, or the cat thinking it would be funny to knock over my freshly filled cup of iced tea…. )

so now i get to do clean up/damage control before i can really focus on molding pierrot – poor girl. guess it’s time to pop in the gackt and dir en grey cds and cry while i clean! or laugh deliriously because i am so past the point of caring due to exhaustion……

yeah, maybe the second one….

last of the catch up updates

and here we are with pictures of pierrot! she’s getting started with the molding process (assuming the weather will be kind to me…..)

but i promised to reveal a few other lessons i learned from all those movies i watched. first is that no matter how silly the clothing or hair style, basil rathbone is one seriously sexy man. the other thing – i have a thing for guys with dreamy accents and long noses.

okay, getting back out of my daydream, here are the pictures i promised!

all laid out… and at an odd angle…. yeah, that’s pretty typical of my life right now.

here is my lovely girl on her bust! it’s true – i can see where she’s flawed, but at this point i want to get her fully finished so i can move on to the next project, and i find her slight flaws endearing and humanizing. after all, we’re all imperfect aren’t we? but i have cleaned up her eyes a bit more and got her all nice and smooth.

and the start of her head cap with my artist nom de plume (why should authors get all the fun? )

and a couple of silly little pictures – she’s got such a happy face.

i've been drawing for as long as i could hold a pencil and art became my first language. though i've only been sculpting since 2007, i fell in love with the idea of being able to bring my drawings to life. i am heavily inspired by medieval macabre artwork, japanese yokai, and oddly enough, sherlock holmes. currently i'm living just south of beautiful portland oregon ^^
