despite the weather i’ve started molding!

take that heat and humidity!

i’ve got most of my mini girls’ parts ready to mold and i’ve poured the first part of the molds for cooper and xolotl’s heads.

my set up -

i’m trying glove molds where i’ll cut the seam along the side – i saw it on the joint and it seemed to work really well -

the poured molds – ugh, lots of bubbles, but these are junk molds just to get them into resin so it should be okay….

and clearly i’ll have plenty of cardboard -

and then, i worked a lot on noir yesterday and today. of course, i haven’t taken pictures of her today… but these are from last night. she’s had a lot more done since then, like the rest of her face (sans ears), arms, and one foot so far –

more primered pieces!

but i have been working on my dolls, really i have! getting them ready to mold once the weather permits – it seems once i’m ready for them, it turns bad!

anyway, here are some pics of venus and pierrot

a big milestone!

just a quickie note – but i ordered my resin and mold materials!!!! i’m super excited to start molding and casting and doing the final refining soon! it feels like it’s been forever since i started my babies, but they’re finally coming to fruit! the hardest part now is which to do molds of first….

i feel a bit like a new mom -

which is appropriate since it is mother’s day…..but got one of basil’s hands jointed! yay! go me!

i also, on a whim, tried hollow’s head on pip’s body – she looks great! i have to say, i rather like the white head and arm against the black sprayed body… i think i want to try and cast a doll like this….

anyway – jointed hands:

and here it is with venus’ head (she and basil will use the same hands)

and pictures of dear ol’ hollow -

no pictures this time -

but i’ve been working on pip today to help me get my mind off the sad news i got yesterday about my beloved kitty treize.

monday morning she had freaked out and started screaming and hissing – the most horrible sound i ever heard. this had lasted for an hour and then afterwards treize was very lethargic. she didn’t want to eat breakfast, which was a huge red flag as my baby girl loves her food. well, i was able to take her to the vet yesterday and found out she most likely had a seizure and may have more. good news is my kitty is feeling better now, but having recently lost several other beloved pets i’m not really prepared to lose another just yet….

so i decided to work on my dolls to help me get sidetracked. it helps – sculpting is a wonderful form of therapy because it allows for creation and just as importantly destruction. i find a real sense of relief when i’m able to carve away the clay and create something elegant. of course, first you have to build up that piece to then refine and reshape. and then when you can see the final shape coming through, it’s amazing. i can’t help but smile when i see my pieces coming together.

i know that some day i’ll have to let treize go (she is 10 years old now) but i hope that i can at least capture her quirky personality in a doll like i had with toby. perhaps first, though, i should try for some pictures…..

i come bearing pictures!

and hands! at least mostly done hands…. for hollow… the jointed ones are probably only half way done (and super fat right now…. need to slim them down! )

and here are the jointed ones with venus’ head

i've been drawing for as long as i could hold a pencil and art became my first language. though i've only been sculpting since 2007, i fell in love with the idea of being able to bring my drawings to life. i am heavily inspired by medieval macabre artwork, japanese yokai, and oddly enough, sherlock holmes. currently i'm living just south of beautiful portland oregon ^^
