looks like i left the updating a bit long ^^;;;;;

i have been working on things here and there - but with the snow and cold weather i’ve not been able to do any molding or casting, though i got black resin for xmas from my brother ^^ i’m excited to play with that as i can see xolotl looking awesome in black resin….

i have been working on a sculpting challenge between me and my mom where we have 6 months to create something from start to finish and so that’s been my main focus sculpting wise, but i’ve also been working on a giraffe inspired girl.

first the concept sketch - i’m naming her kirin after the japanese word for giraffee

and the start of sculpting with my beautiful straw core…. and yes, that IS zebra print duct tape…

here is the first layer of clay

and after the second week - i will be correcting her legs so they’ll both have the lovely bow curve to them. i want her to be extreme and all legs.

HUGE update

i know things have been quiet on the blog for quite some time - however it doesn’t mean i was idle!

i’ve been working on my mini girls - carving down the fingers to make her hands look more elegant, working on a large bust option (i also plan on doing a flat bust option), and several new animal inspired heads.

first up are the hands (errr - one hand so far) :

and the large bust compared to the original bust:

and here are the new heads -voodoo - inspired by the godsmack song by the same name. i’m using an african cape cobra as my model and plan on casting her in white and doing golden toned blushing and such. the head is still very much in the beginning stages - i also plan on doing a special head cap for her that will come down behind the neck to look like a cobra hood that is opened (obviously won’t be true to a real snake, but she’s my own creation). she will also have scales down along her throat - so she will be getting her own bust piece.

kitsune - as the name suggests, i’m going for a mischievous fox lady inspired by japanese legends. the large bust originally was going to be just for her, but i may have it as a standard option. the head is actually a heavily modified xolotl cast - can you tell? i will be sculpting fox feet and possible paw-hands for her.

song - this head wasn’t in the plans, but after watching a full day’s worth of cartoons, she came about. there is no real model i’m using for the head, but something akin to a parakeet is what i envision. i think bright colors would work well on the simple sculpt, and i do plan on sculpting my own wing arms with hands for her.

and here are all eight heads together (wow, eight! ) -
top row (left to right) : voodoo, xolotl, kitsune, song
bottom row (left to right) : unnamed mod of pierrot, pierrot, beatrix, cooper

i also started yet another new version of hollow’s lost head - this one i’m very happy with! she also has hands! yay - i can’t wait to see her all together! again…. i will do my best not to loose this head too.

and lastly - i have plans for a new head for the large body. he’s inspired by one of my favorite eighties songs - mr. roboto by styx. i plan on doing a face plate that will come off to reveal a robot skull - and what else to call him but killroy (yes, yes, i know the name really only has one ‘l’ but it’s part of the story i see developing about him) !

sorry for the delays

things have become quite busy here with my roommate out of town. i’m also taking a class on anatomy which is eating up what little free time i have left after the pets and keeping the apartment clean.

however, i expect this anatomy class to really help me out with my sculpting! i’m also still paying off the last of my surgery bill so i haven’t been able to order more silicone to finish molding my mini girl.

but if all goes well this weekend, i’m hoping to do more sanding on her and finish up the jointed hands for basil/ronald. if i can get everything all set to mold that’ll be awesome! (of course it’s now raining here so i don’t know how i’m going to spray them with the primer…. perhaps a very large box? )

a small side-track

i’ve been working here and there on various things, though right now i’m working on a head back for my various unoa faceplates. i plan on it working with the body i’ve sculpted (which i’m in the process of sanding and smoothing the cast of.

i’ve been working on my mini girls, see!

i’ve cast a bunch of pieces to clean up and drill so i can string a full body. i’ve also started modding a cast into a boy body (not the most masculine, but definitely in my style) and i’m modding a head into something inspired by volks leiselotte - i had one once and she was incredibly cute, but we didn’t bond fully and i think in part it was her size. i seem to be more drawn to mature mini dolls.

first up - some random molds (bits of the girl body and venus’ head)

box o’ pieces

some washed out picture of the beginnings of the boy body…. as you can see, i haven’t really cleaned up the piece at all ^^;;;;;;;

and a not so great picture of the modded head in progress…. hmmm… light seems to have been my nemesis today. *shakes fist*
but you can see, her eyes are going to be much bigger and rounder, and plump full lips parted to show cute little teeth!

look - pictures!

okay, they’re just two arty pictures of the heads i’ve cast (body parts too) - but i thought i’d share something…..

i was going to pour the rest of the molds the other day… um, except i ended up spilling part of the molding compound on our futon…..

so i’m going to wait for weekends to do the molding and casting when i’m not exhausted from work ^^;;;;;

why yes, that is a cat toy in the background…. though in this house it’s actually a ferret toy ^^ (cats play with it too, but our little girl ferret steals them and hides them all away)

and any one remember this lovely head -

unfortunately the clay dried out in the heat, so i’m going to mold the head and cast it, then do the finishing on the resin cast.

it seems like nothing but bad news

has been following me around lately…..

life’s been unkind/hectic/stressful to say the least….

and i was going to put the dolls on hold but a talk with my mom last night kicked me in the butt and i’m going to start making myself do an hour a night on them so i can get them completed. i know it’ll be a huge relief to see them in resin, and i’m not that far from getting all of them there - but i think it’s nerves and fear that stop me.

i’ve also got the base sketches for my portfolio, so i won’t have as much time taken up putting that together for art school - which i’m super nervous about applying for! i always get nervous when i have people judge my art….

i did get more casting done -

but was unable to find a drill that i could afford that had a drill bit right for making the elastic channels in the dolls……

so i haven’t gotten much further on them, though this weekend i hope to get the last pieces molded so i can cast them next week and… um, have a full doll in pieces? i’m still looking for a drill that will work. but i thought i’d give a quick update.

oh, and noir’s head doesn’t look good hollow, so i’ve started making a new head for hollow - but some how time just keeps getting away from me…..

good news or bad news -

the dolls have been put on the back burner as i work on my drawings to put together a portfolio to apply to art school….

though i managed to pour a few more molds for xololt/pierrot/cooper.

i’m also starting to realize that perhaps i’ve taken on a bit too much…. so i plan on finishing those that i’ve started (basil, ronald, venus, pip, hollow/noir hybrid since hollow’s head has run off, xolotl, pierrot, cooper, beatrix, saru, and vegeta) and then i only have one that i plan on making after this as a special doll for myself, but then that’s kinda it. i think i want to focus on those that i have sculpted and customize them and such. i’m spread too thin, which is what people have been telling me for years and i never listed too….

the good news is that the majority of those dolls are already near completion! yay! though i had plans to do a number of other heads and such for my mini girls (i was thinking a fox, a cat, a snake….) and maybe years down i will go that route for them as that wouldn’t involve too much sculpting, but for now i need to have laser focus on finishing those that i’ve started and my portfolio.

and let me tell you, i am one of the most EASILY distracted people in the world.

this is going to be hard.
