what’s going on? d2’s insane!

nope, pip’s just so small that she’s easy to work on while i’m watching tv! that and i’m hoping if i get her to the point of sanding, then i’ll be forced to do the sanding on all my other dolls too (and with summer coming up and no sign of a job, i’ll probably have a lot of time on my hands….)

so here she is so far - a sketch of her face so i have a better idea of what i’m going to sculpt -
pip's face

a craptastic picture of her profile - but her nose and upper lip are matching the profile sketch i did! now to do the lower lip/chin and eyes… oh, and ears…. i always forget the ears….
pip's face

and this is her next to my (faceless) puki for size - i want her to have a 4 inch head, but currently it’s around 3, so i’m going to have to bulk it out i fear….

what’s that you say? d2’s gone crazy?

yeah yeah, you’re thinking it.

i know it!i’ve gone and started a new doll without finishing any of the others! BUT - to be fair - i have been working on them!

i’ll be ordering some mold materials soon to put xolotl in resin so i can finish her.
i’m working on sanding my big ones and getting them sculpted.
and cooper’s… well…. cooper. i’m having isuses with him, sadly….

but this is my new girl - pip - she’ll be about 21.5cm tall when i’m finished.
i’ve only worked on her two days so far (okay, technically 3, but i didn’t work on the second day)

pip sketch

pip frame

and yep, that is coffee stirrers i’m using for her “skeleton” and masking tape to bulk it out some to be the size i want.
pip bulked out

it’s been far too long…

but now that school is out (okay, it’s been out for a week now….) i’ve got time to start working on my dolls again!i started working on xolotl again - desperate to get her done - and i’ve broke her leg. again. *sigh* so i have to put her into resin to work on her more because the clay just seems to be too fragile. however, we’re having tons of rain so i can’t work on her for the time being…. or at least her leg.so i’m working on sanding her and getting her set for molding/casting. i also plan on working on cooper to get him finished. i’m also working on my large dolls - i really want my sherlockian boys! :(so look forward to seeing some updates in the coming weeks/months - this i promise! i’m even reopening my wig shop so i can afford the casting materials for my dolls.

it seems like an eternity-

school has been keeping me pretty busy this last half of the year - i graduate in december and so making sure everything is going smoothly for that along with starting the job hunt has left me stressed out beyond belief.however, i recently restarted sculpting by working on my sd sized boy body so i can have a body for my basil rathbone and ronald howard (the one who played sherlock holmes in the mid 50’s ) inspired heads.my mom has offered to help me tweak my sd girl torso, as it hasn’t been posing well since i started to clean up the joints….and of course there’s still xolotl and cooper to finish.yeah, i have a lot on my plate….. but hopefully i can get at least something done before i leave in january/february…. once i leave, i won’t be able to cast as easily (might have to ship things back to my mom to cast in the pressure pot or else do them by hand and put up with having imperfect casts…. )well, that’s what’s happening to me now…. i really gotta get back into the swing of things sculpting wise, so hopefully i’ll have pictures in the next day or two of what i’m currently working on.

or at least that’s how it seems….

i’ve started the 10th version of xolotl’s lower leg and it STILL isn’t working right - my mom has offered to try and make one, she’s much better at it that i am (gee, one would hope considering she’s got like 30+ years experience on me! )

i had to do a TON of carving on my large girl body and now it’s in worse shape than it was a few weeks ago ^^;;;;;;

i’ve set it up so that i’ll have fridays free to work on my dolls (yay! ) so i hope to get at least cooper and xolotl done by the end of the year (yeah, we’ve heard that before….)

in the mean time, i’m hoping to start making my own eyes. i have the start of 12mm, i need to make a 8, 14, and 16mm mock up so i can make the molds for them and start casting them. i love eyes - they’ve always been fascinating to me (i used to doodle dozens of eyes on my notes in high school) and yet i have a hard time finding doll eyes i like in the sizes i need. so i figured i would try making my own - maybe others will be interested in them too?

well, that’s the plan for now.

ugh….

i have been sooooo horrible at updating this thing ><;;;;; i have kinda worked on somethings, sanding here and there and redoing various parts…. but working 3 days a week over the summer has made me lazy on the other days - as well as trying to make clothing for my other dolls ><;;;; i have a few parts left to sand on cooper and then he’ll be ready for the final molding (though i’m thinking of redoing his mouth), xolotl has a new leg and arm that needs to be done, as well as sanding her headcap and ears. my big girl, venus, has still a ways to go….i’d be so tempted to stop working my last semester and focus on sculpting my dolls before i graduate and get a job for real, but i’m not so sure how my mom will feel about that ><;;;;would be nice though!

another update! this time with torso joints!

yep, my birthday is tomorrow and i’ve got an update ^^

i spent the weekend cutting apart venus’ body to start the jointing ^^ (i know, i know! i’m avoiding xolotl and cooper…. )

but i wanted to share some pics - i’ve also cut out the parts of her arms and the boy torso.

and my work “room” (the living room *cough cough* of course most of the clutter on the coffee table is my mom’s )

my box o’ pieces *^^*

hoping to get more time -

i have about 4 weeks left in school so things are getting hectic - more than i thought.

but, it also means once i finish up with school in mid may i will have a lot more time to be sculpting and working on my own dolls - which i’m really looking forward to since i’m nearly 6 months late compared to my original deadline estimate ><;;;;;

a minor, but important update -

no, i haven’t got any new pictures - for that i apologize!

but i’m thinking that i will only make 10 xolotl’s total, and 5 of them are already taken.

i plan on finishing her up this month (i just have her lower leg, arm, ears, and head cap to finish - they’re all at least 50% there) and then i get to start the molding process. my goal is to have them done by my birthday in may (the 26th to be precise)while i would love to do each of them a different breed, i understand that the 5 lucky people to purchase the other xolotls might not want them to be pre-customized.

so, what i’m thinking is that i’ll take a list of people who are interested (first come, first serve) and will let them choose from two different options. a 450$ doll, which is just the doll, a simple faux fur wig, eyes, and shipping (absolutely no customization at all) or a 550$ doll, which will include the doll, either faux fur or mohair(lambskin) wig, full face up and body blushing to the new owner’s specifics.

AND!

i plan on sculpting a cat head to go on the body, and maybe a fox head later on. these will also be in limited numbers (between 5 and 10) and will be sold through the same process. pierrot (both old and new) is a different matter, and i haven’t decided yet how i will be dealing with her - but i know i want to sell a couple of her.

i am not ready to sell yet (obviously) but people who are interested can let me know, and i will start taking names probably beginning of may. when i’m ready to sell, i will ask for a deposit at that time (depends on cost of materials) and the the rest would be due when the doll is ready.

now, for cooper - i’m thinking of doing something similar.

he is in the final stages of having his pieces smoothed and finished for the final casting.

however, i think i will do a run of around 20 for him, and will take batches of names (probably 4 or 5 batches of 5 names) for him, i am thinking possibly 250 or 275 for the basic doll (with faux fur wig and eyes) and maybe 300 or 325 for the customized doll.

i am hopefully going to be sculpting a rabbit eared head for the body, and will do a similar run with him.

i will post an announcement on my webpage when i’m ready to start taking names, as well as posting pages devoted to each doll (so you can easily see their pictures and progress)these will be the ONLY ones that i sell.

i am working on my own dolls at a larger scale, and these will not be for sale. i hope to have venus and two special boys finished by the end of the year.
